All interior environments are affected by a number of chemical and physical based features beyond the typical subjects of colour and patterns, and if you have ever felt too cold in a room or sleepy during a meeting, you will have a personal experience of these. Of course one person's 'too cold' is another person's 'perfect', so how do we know what good design is which supports occupant wellbeing?

Some issues have been considered over recent years and there are some avarages that indicate good practice and only some small tailoring is required to harmonise with each project, but others perhaps due to the lack of visibility in the case of issues such as ai velocity or fine air particles and material off-gassing, have less awareness by occupants and we rely purely on current research.

Physical issues impact our health, in cases, their effect is immediately perceived in removing comfort and being unsupportive in achieving wellbeing. This mini-course explores the role of indoor air quality in occupants wellbeing.

What to expect in this mini course

  • PART 1 - PHILOSOPHY AND OUTPUTS OF WELLBEING

The first part includes an exploration of wellbeing, which elements of a human does it engage with, how we achieve it and its links to interior spaces.

  • PART 2 - DESIGN IN PRACTICE

This part helps designers to know the specific design decisions to look out for when designing for wellbeing. The focus is on issues such as air quality, including thermal comfort, air toxicity issues, air velocity and ventilation.

  • INTO PRACTICE

Each lesson concludes with a practical exercise designed to be applied in a project, whether one you are currently working on or have recently completed, enhancing the application of the learned concepts and skills.

  • EXAM & CERTIFICATE

At the end of the course you will find an exam. If you wish to receive a Certificate of Completion the Final Exam needs to be passed. This is graded and has a 75% pass rate requirement. Good Luck!
